All students receive instruction in Religion each day as part of their academic studies at OMGC. In the classes, students are taught the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church. They then are expected to put these Christian practices into their dealings with others both on and off the campus.
All of our students take an active part in the Church community by attending Mass as a community every Wednesday. Parents are encouraged to attend. The student body also prepares monthly school prayer services as occasions arise. Students are involved in special services during Advent and Lent. The 8th grade students lead the students in the Stations of the Cross during Lent and re-enact them for the school community during Holy Week.
In May the school holds a May crowning for the Blessed Mother led by the Grade 2 and Grade 8 classes.
In Second grade the students prepare for the reception of Reconciliation and Eucharist which take place in December and May. Students in the older grades who have not received these sacraments are given the opportunity to participate as well.
Each class also is responsible for an assigned Service project. The service projects are aligned with the Corporal Works of Mercy. Through these projects the students learn what it means to be a Catholic citizen of the World.

Spiritual Development
Faith formation is an integral part of OMGC's curriculum. Students in all grades have daily religion class and participate in weekly community mass (TK and Kinder students may attend mass less frequently). Our curriculum teaches and reinforces Catholic values. Bible stories teach students the Word of God; special prayer services encourage them to celebrate the Word. Prayer is a natural part of the children's day as we pray multiple times throughout the day as an entire school (beginning of the day, recess time, lunch time, dismissal). Students become aware that in everything they do, the Spirit of God is present.
Our Mother of Good Counsel School helps students develop a service-oriented outreach to the Church and civic community after the example of Jesus who said, “I have given you an example so that you may copy what I have done to you.” (John 13:15)
Our Service Learning Program calls Junior High students to volunteer and give back to the community.
Students submit Verification of Service Forms to their homeroom teachers.

“The laity can also feel called, or be in fact called, to cooperate with their pastors in the service of the ecclesial community, for the sake of its growth and life. This can be done through the exercise of different kinds of ministries according to the grace and charisms which the Lord has been pleased to bestow on them.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1997, #910)
