The school began in 1933 with 36 students studying in two small cottages on Ambrose Street. Four years later another house was purchased on Dracena Street to accommodate the 7th and 8th grade classes. Work on the present school building began in 1949. From its beginning until 1968, the school was staffed by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart; it is presently served by dedicated lay teachers and staff.
OMGC began transitioning to the Common Core State Standards in 2011. Also that year, through a generous donation, the school began purchasing and implementing technology; the school's infrastructure was upgraded and teacher professional development focused on teaching with technology.
In 2013 a transitional kindergarten was added, serving students as young as 4-years-old.
